The Fool on the Hill:
How  RIVERDANCE and
 LORD OF THE DANCE
came into my life

Riverdance The Show

  • In the autum '97 I went downtown to buy something in a musicstore within a big shoppingcenter. Looking for the thing, I wanted to buy I suddenly heard music, I never had heard before and it touched my heart at once. I looked for the place where it did come from and in that shop they had a videotape runnig. On a little screen I saw Eileen Ivers with her Blue Violin on a big stage: I saw (the first time in my life) Riverdance - the video...I did not know, that this moment would change my life. To be honest, I do not think, that this moment changed my life. I really do think, that it was the/my time to meet Riverdance and Lord of the Dance and all these things and so I had to go downtown that day... But nevermind. Let's see it in the way, I went there by accidental to buy something...

  • I really was fascinated by what I did hear and see there! I did not foung the thing I originally wanted to buy, but I went home with the CD of Riverdance - it was a friday. And on tuesday next week I went to town again to buy the video. I could not get enough of it. I saw it again and again and I listened to the music again and again. I showed it to my friend Michael, and he was out of order as me, when he saw it the first time, and we saw it twice and three times and... and after about 20 times I stopped counting it.

  • After some weeks I phoned the friend of my youngest sister, because I knew, that he had connections to England and I asked him to look for or to ask his english friends for anything concerning to Riverdance. A few weeks later I became the owner of another video tape but I was wondering, in what kind it should be connected with Riverdance: Lord of the Dance with Michael Flatley!? Who should be that!? I never had heard about that or him before. But when I saw the tape I started to have a presentiment and later I found out the whole story ofcourse. And ofcourse I showed this video to my friends again - specially to Michael.

  • When my birthday came in '98 Michael had a very special gift for me: He invited me to the Lord of the Dance show in Dortmund / Germany in June. That was the best gift I ever got till then! I felt like one of the happiest men in the world.

  • I started to look for other irish or celtic artists, specially musicians and composers and I found many! And I love them all! I became a great fan of Reeltime (with Mairin Fahy, the fiddler of the Riverdance Liffey Company! I really love her kind of playing the violin!!) Capercaillie, Patric Cassidy (a young irish composer of "classic music"), Clanned, Davy Spillane and and and...By the way: I still love the Beatles, Pink Floyd or Chateau Neuf from Norway...

  • In January '99 my friend Jürgen gave me a CD with a computer program to go into the internet inclusive "50 hours online free" - so one only has to pay for the telephone company. I never liked the internet and I had many good reasons not to like it, but that would never prevent me from trying something. So I got connected to the internet and have a guess, what I was searching for first of all: Lord of the Dance (and later Riverdance)...yes! yes! yes! And I found it and I did, what I never had thought before that I would do it: I wrote something into "the internet", I wrote some lines into the visitors book of the Lord of the Dance site... but that would be another story.
